Higgins Thoroughbred Transport is a Toowoomba based family owned and operated business conducted by the founder, Gary Higgins and his wife Therese. The Business which has professionally serviced the Racing Industry of Queensland for the past twenty-four years has grown from having one horse float at its inception, to today consisting of a fleet of five floats each with a carrying capacity of between nine and twelve horses.

Gary Higgins was born into a well known racing family and currently holds an Open Trainers Licence and was for many years, Chairman of the Toowoomba branch of the Owners and Trainers Association. His father, Norm Higgins, trained gallopers of the calibre of Lucky Cloud (Stradbroke winner) and numerous other Metropolitan winners. Therese Higgins has spent a lifetime involved with horses, as have their drivers and other staff, and Higgins Thoroughbred Transport fervently believe that employing people with sound horsemanship skills is a prerequisite to a successful Thoroughbred Transport Business.

Emphatic attempts are made by the Company to transport their valuable livestock as directly as possible from Point A to Point B, so as to avoid unnecessary stress, particularly to young horses, being faced with overnight stays in unfamiliar surroundings. In the event that no other option is necessary, the depot - which is situated in close proximity to the proprietor’s residence - has a brick and besser block barn (pictured) complete with day yards to accommodate.

As testament to the esteem in which the business is held in the Darling Downs region, it has the responsibility of transporting around 60% of all Thoroughbreds to and from the region in any given season.

Weekly services operate to Brisbane, Gold Coast, Caloundra, Beaudesert and Ipswich and race meetings attended include all of these venues as well as Toowoomba, Gatton, Esk, Kilcoy, Nanango, Warwick, Clifton, Chinchilla, Bell, Oakey, Roma, Miles, Burrandowan and Stanthorpe.

By linking paddock work with all these race meetings, it is possible to service the entire South East Queensland region.

Higgins Thoroughbred Transport are entrusted to float valuable Thoroughbreds to Q.B.B.S. and Magic Million Sales as well as the Annual Yearling Sales conducted in Rockhampton, Townsville and Cairns.
